An avid performer, conductor, and arts administrator, Allison Yablonski has recently began serving in Columbia, South Carolina. In May 2023, Allison earned a Bachelor of Music in Performance with a concentration in voice from Virginia Commonwealth University. Starting in the fall of 2023, Allison will serve as a Graduate Choral Area Assistant at the University of South Carolina as she pursues a Masters of Music in Choral Conducting.
As a conductor and teacher, Allison was a member and Conducting Assistant of the VCU Commonwealth Singers, the premier choral ensemble on campus, and serves as Assistant Conductor for VCU’s non-auditioned choir, Choral Arts Society. She also led a student-run choral literature reading ensemble. Allison recently began serving as Conductor of Youth Choirs at River Road Church, Baptist, where she also is a member of the choir as a Choral Scholar. This opportunity has allowed her multiple conducting opportunities, including Haydn's "Missa brevis Joannis Sancti de Deo" with strings, organ, and chorus.
As a performer, Allison performed multiple roles with the VCU Opera program, including Queen of the Night in Mozart's The Magic Flute with the VCU Symphony, Miss Pinkerton in Menotti's The Old Maid and The Thief with the VCU Symphony, and partial roles of Foreign Woman in Menotti's The Consul and Rosalinda in Strauss' Die Fledermaus (in English). Additionally, Allison has presented two recitals as part of her undergraduate coursework with David Kim, piano. During her time in Richmond, Allison was also a member of the Richmond Symphony Chorus.
Through her role as an executive board member of VCU’s student chapter of the American Choral Directors Association, Allison lead a student chapter of aspiring music educators to create musical opportunities throughout the pandemic. Allison’s commitment to inclusivity and accessibility has led her to create numerous opportunities for students and faculty at VCU to hold discussions, share repertoire of historically excluded composers, and engage in conversations about the future of classical music. She helped create pandemic-safe options for choral ensembles to virtually rehearse and present concerts though the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring that the community of musicians brought together before the pandemic would remain cohesive when able to gather safely again.
Outside of VCU, Allison’s natural ability for leadership has allowed her to serve in several arts administrative roles. She held an internship with Wintergreen Music, serving in multiple capacities; in 2020, she served as Operations and Artistic Assistant for Wintergreen Music’s Online Community, and was delighted to return in-person as the Artistic Operations and Production Leadership Fellow in 2021, and as Education Coordinator and Artistic Assistant in 2022. Her work included: managing the multigenerational volunteer “Sing with Us!” chorus; assisting in the development of artistic content including lecture scripts and class materials; and, supporting the pilot year of the LEAD Cooperative, the festival’s education initiative. She has also supported numerous arts organizations in the Richmond through operations and production work, including The Belvedere Series and Menuhin Competition Richmond 2021.
Allison is a conducting student of Erin Freeman, voice student of Sarah Kate Walston, and vocal coaching student of Melanie Kohn Day.
