New York–based Mexican mezzo-soprano Rosario Armas was born in Tlaxcala, Mexico. She began her musical studies at the Escuela Nacional Autónoma de México before moving to New York in 2016 to pursue her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at the Manhattan School of Music.
Rosario has garnered recognition for her remarkable portrayals across a wide rage of operatic roles. Her notable roles include Cherubino in Mozart's "Le Nozze di Figaro," Dorabella in Mozart's "Così fan Tutte," Juana in Carla Lucero's "Juana” Orsini in Donizetti’s “Lucrezia di Borgia ” Suzuki in Puccini’s "Madame Butterfly” Marthe in Gounod’s “Faust” Carmen in Bizet’s "La Tragedie de Carmen” Despina in Mozart’s “Cosi fan tutte” Anita in Massenet’s “La Navarraise” and Baba de Turk in Stravinsky’s “The Rakes Progress”. She has also performed Carmen in concert with the WNO orchestra in Washington DC.
She is the recipient of numerous scholarships and awards, including the Judith Raskin Scholarship, the International Advisory Board Scholarship. Awarded the Encouragement Award at Laffont district auditions (2021 and 2022). She has been recognized with Third Prize in the Joan Taub Ades Competition, First Prize in the Eisenberg-Fried Concerto Competition, Second Prize in the Gerda Lissner Foundation Competition Zarzuela Division, and was named Washington, D.C. District Winner of the Laffont Competition in 2025.
Rosario has been engaged as an Apprentice Artist at Sarasota Opera (2023), a Studio Artist at Wolf Trap Opera (2023–2024), and a Studio Artist at Des Moines Metro Opera (2025).
In 2023, she commissioned new works from composer Julian de la Chica, resulting in the release of two albums on November 1, 2024. Alongside her operatic career, Rosario is also an accomplished interpreter of Bolero and traditional Mexican Mariachi music. She is currently completing the final year of her Master of Musical Arts degree at the Yale School of Music.
