Jeremiah Sanders (they/them/he/him) grew up in Marion, Indiana, singing in church choir with their madea. Now, a nationally awarded baritone described as “a hulk … with robust voice and a flair for comedy” by the Herald Times, they eagerly join the ranks of Minnesota Opera’s Resident Artist Program.
Sanders consistently finds success on the competition circuit and secured district wins with the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition in Kansas City and Indianapolis. Previously, they won 1st place in the Opera Ebony Voice Competition, 1st place with the Friends of the Symphony (Lima Symphony Orchestra) Young Artist Competition, 2nd place with the Indianapolis Matinee Musicale Collegiate Scholarship Competition, and were a finalist in several national competitions.
Last season, their roles included Charlie in South Bend Lyric Opera’s Three Decembers, Falstaff in IU Jacobs School of Music’s production of Falstaff, Lindorf, Coppelius, Dappertutto, and Dr. Miracle in Union Avenue Opera’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann which was nominated for Outstanding Production of an Opera by the St. Louis Theater Circle, and Marcello in IU Jacobs School of Music’s production of La bohème. Most recently, they played Bob in IU Jacobs School of Music’s historic production of Highway 1, USA and Sharpless in Madama Butterfly with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. Sanders was Young Artist at Opera Saratoga and has performed and covered roles with the International Opera Performing Experience in Mercatello sul Metauro, Italy, with the San Miguel Institute of Bel Canto in Guanajuato, Mexico, and with the Martina Arroyo Foundation’s Prelude to Performance program in New York City.
A proud Hoosier, Sanders earned a Performer’s Diploma from the Jacobs School of Music, a Master of Music degree from Butler University, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Voice from Manchester University. jeremiahmarcelesanders.com
