Jeremy is a saxophonist/composer specializing in artistically adventurous music. He is currently devoting most of his creative energy towards SaxVonix - an electro-accoustic duo of saxophones and mezzo-soprano with vocalist/composer Alexia Benson. He has contributed numerous works to the saxophone literature including his latest Bari Sax Sonata; the first of its kind. In the past, Jeremy has appeared on studio recordings with New Orleans style Brass Bands and acclaimed classical ensembles. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan and Eastman.
Excited to be premiering my completed Bari Sax Sonata and a Soprano Sax arrangement of Alexia Benson's 'Rebirth of the Phoenix'. My work for baritone saxophone is in four movements of increasing difficulty roughly ranging from an advanced high schooler to a professional. It is the first piece of its kind for the instrument and something that I hope bari sax players will soon call their own. At the conference, I will be performing the 2nd and 4th movements, entitled 'Dances of Distinct Hues' and 'Untamed, Unkept, Unhinged'. Alexia Benson's work was originally written for flute and arranged for soprano saxophone. It is playful, energetic, and epic.
Jeremy Howell's (b. 1997) music has been described as 'an evolving network of ideas' and 'rhythmically fascinating'. An up-and-coming composer and saxophonist, Jeremy has performed in eleven countries in classical, jazz, funk, and rock ensembles. His rich and diversified performance background has bolstered his eclectic compositional style allowing for his works to have been performed by ensembles ranging from the Eastman Saxophone Project to Big Wy’s Brass Band.
Jeremy has received multiple prizes in various national and state-wide competitions including the Vandoren Emerging Artist Competition, MTNA, Empire, and the Coltman Competition.
Jeremy is a current member of the Electro-Accoustic duo 'SaxVonix' alongside vocalist and composer Alexia Benson. He holds master's degrees from the University of Michigan where he studied saxophone with Dr. Timothy McAllister and Composition with Evan Chambers and Kristin Kuster. He also holds a BM in Saxophone Performance from the Eastman School of Music. He has studied saxophone with Dr. Chien-Kwan Lin, Dr. Stephen Page, and Harvey Pittel.
