Baritone Michael J. Hawk is currently a member of Los Angeles Opera’s Young Artist Program: he made his LA Opera debut as Prince Arjuna in Satyagraha in October of 2018. This season at LA Opera, Michael sang the role of Ophémon in Joseph Bologne's L'amant Anonyme; at Santa Fe Opera, Michael is singing the role of Demetrius in Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream.

During the 2019-2020 season at LA Opera, he sang Schaunard in La bohème, Der Sprecher in Die Zauberflöte, and Sir Walter Raleigh in Roberto Devereux. In the 2018-2019 season, Michael sang the title role in the world premiere of Henry Mollicone’s Moses, under the baton of Maestro James Conlon, and Caireles in El gato montés with LA Opera; in June 2019, he made his role debut as Escamillo in Carmen with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra; he then joined the Bard Summerscape and Music Festival as Der fünfte Richter in the U.S. Premier of Korngold’s immense Das Wunder der Heliane and the Baritone Soloist in Zemlinsky’s Lyrische Symphonie. In the summer of 2017, Michael was the Cobbler in Philip Glass's The Juniper Tree at Wolf Trap Opera. In 2018, he was a finalist in Houston Grand Opera's Concert of Arias, and in the summer of 2018, he joined the Apprentice Singer Program at Santa Fe Opera, where he covered the title role of Oppenheimer in a new production of Doctor Atomic, directed by the librettist Peter Sellars. For the 2020 summer, Michael was slated to sing the role of Fiorello and cover the title role in Il barbiere di Siviglia and cover the leading role of Rene Gallimard in the world premiere of M. Butterfly at Santa Fe Opera.
