23-year-old American soprano Catherine Creed is currently pursuing her graduate studies at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, where she studies with Nova Thomas. She is the recipient of the Cecilia Bartoli Scholarship and will perform as Nannetta in Rice’s production of Verdi’s Falstaff in spring 2026. Known for her clear, vibrant tone and expressive musicality, Catherine aims to make music that is a reflection of the kindness of humanity from her heart.
She is currently making her professional debut as Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro and covering the role of Sœur Constance in Dialogues des Carmélites at Wolf Trap Opera, where her “bright soprano and sunny presence” as Barbarina were praised by Alex Baker of the Washington Classical Review. In 2025, she also portrayed Florestine in Rice’s production of The Ghost of Versailles, directed by Patricia Racette. That same year, she was the First Prize winner of the Shirley Rabb Winston Scholarship, received an Encouragement Award in the Houston District of the Laffont Metropolitan Opera Competition, and was a Finalist in both the Fort Worth Opera and National Opera Association Competitions.
She graduated from the Eastman School of Music in May 2024, where she studied with Nicole Cabell. She was the First Prize winner of the Eastman Opera Voice Competition, judged by Christine Goerke, and a Grand Finalist at the Opera Grand Rapids Competition. While at Eastman, she performed with Eastman Opera Theatre as Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos, Pemphredo in We’ve Got Our Eye on You, and Destino in La Calisto. She made her European debut as Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro at the National Theatre in Prague and was a soloist with the Eastman Philharmonia in Poulenc’s Gloria.
