Kate Johnson, soprano, recently performed the title role in the operatic world premiere of Anne Frank by Shulamit Ran and Charles Kondek with the IU Opera Theater. She is a current Performer Diploma in Voice student under the tutelage of Heidi Grant Murphy at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Kate was based in Vienna as a 2021-2022 Fulbright Austria Mach-Award grantee. She was a 2021 Apprentice Artist with Des Moines Metro Opera. Kate is from Omaha, Nebraska.
This March, Kate Johnson performed the title role in the world premiere of Anne Frank by Shulamit Ran with the IU Opera Theater. A student of Heidi Grant Murphy, Kate is a current Performer Diploma student at Indiana University (IU) Jacobs school of Music, where she completed her Master of Music in Voice in 2021. Kate Johnson, soprano, was based in Vienna as a 2021-2022 Fulbright Austria grantee. Prior to departing for her Fulbright, she was a 2021 Apprentice Artist with Des Moines Metro Opera. In past IU productions, Kate has performed as Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro and Atalanta in Handel's Serse. Passionate about opera outreach, Kate has performed enthusiastically for local school children with Reimagining Opera for Kids. At the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, she has twice been awarded the Opera Omaha Guild Award and in 2020 was an Encouragement Award winner. She is a total dog lover, salsa and bachata enthusiast, and enjoys walks outside in her downtime.
