Biography

Annie Chester

Most recently, Ms. Chester was named a winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions for the Idaho/Montana & North Dakota/Manitoba District and will go on to compete at the regional level in spring 2021. Ms. Chester gained much attention performing Maddalena in Sarasota Opera’s 2019 fall production of Rigoletto. Of her opening night performance, The Herald Tribune stated that “Annie Chester’s Maddelena is brash and loose with a honeyed deep mezzo-soprano voice. Both feisty and amorous she plays it well.” Your Observer also claimed that “Maddalena was well sung and acted by Annie Chester, whose warm and burnished mezzo sound certainly worked its magic on the duke.” Ms. Chester will return to the Sarasota Opera stage in April 2021 to perform the role of Sorceress in Dido and Aeneas. Past roles include Fenena (Nabucco), Dido (Dido and Aeneas), Mother (Hansel und Gretel), Dorabella (Cosi fan tutte), Ruggiero (Alcina), Amastre (Xerxes), Third Lady (The Magic Flute), Antonia (Tiefland), The Madrigal Singer (Manon Lescaut), Jade Boucher (Dead Man Walking), and Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro).
